A report from the United Kingdom Constitution Monitoring Group, covering 1 January to 30 June, 2025
The United Kingdom Constitution Monitoring Group (UKCMG) comprises experts and practitioners covering a range of areas of the UK constitution. Its principal purpose is to assess developments – actual and anticipated – in the UK constitution.
The UKCMG continues to find reason for apprehension regarding adherence to constitutional principles, particularly involving the UK executive and its intersection with other parts of the political system. This is the group’s second report following the July 2024 General Election which produced a Labour government under Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister. They have found that, despite some efforts to address problems of a type identified in previous reports, some key concerns have persisted, and new issues have emerged.
