Alastair Sutton presents his new paper considering the impact of Brexit on the UK’s Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories.
The impact of Brexit on nearly 20 diverse UK overseas territories is over-shadowed by the continuing uncertainty of the outcome for the UK itself. What future relationship with the EU do the territories want? What priority will the UK give to them in implementing its new global strategy, both with the EU 27 and with third countries? Does the EU27 have any interest in new legal ties with the UK’s Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories? The likelihood at this late stage in the Brexit process is that the UK’s territories will have no legal ties with the EU27 after UK withdrawal. This paper explores the options open to the territories and the UK.
