The Constitution Society is an independent, non-party educational foundation which works to promote informed debate about constitutional reform.

The Society publishes papers and a regular blog on constitutional topics by leading experts, as well as conducting its own research programmes and supporting affiliated organisations. It organises conferences, seminars and lectures.

The Society is looking to recruit contributing writers in fixed-term appointments to research and write blog posts on contemporary UK constitutional issues. Areas of interest to the Society include, but are not limited to:

  • devolution and the territorial constitution;
  • the judiciary and the rule of law;
  • executive standards and accountability;
  • the role of the civil service and the structure of government;
  • legislative issues;
  • democracy and electoral systems;
  • and the constitutional change process.

Blog posts will be commissioned by the Society and offered to each contributing writer. Each writer will be offered a minimum of five blogs in 2023. Blogs are typically between 1000 and 1500 words and writers will be paid £200 per blog.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic background, preferably to master’s level or beyond. This is likely to be in political science, law or history, with multi-disciplinary experience an advantage. The ability to write clear and succinct English – accessible to politicians and public officials as well as to academics – is essential. We are looking for writers who are self-motivated and confident working to deadline. 

Interviews to be held week commencing 30th January via Zoom. Start date in February.

Candidates are asked to submit a writing sample, ideally a blog on constitutional issues, and a CV to Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview.
